Hi, I’m Matt
I’m a theologian and writer in Chicago. I care about ideas, drink ratios, and the mysteries of the creative process. I live in Oak Park with my wife and our son.
Some Specifics
-
People often ask me for book recommendations. Some recent favorites include The Life You Save May Be Your Own and Piranesi.
I enjoy making cocktails for my friends. I tend to like split-based sazeracs and drinks with Chartreuse—try a Bijou.
I’m happy to help give creative direction or editorial feedback for projects that promote good human lives.
-
I serve as the director of idea development for the redemptive imagination project at Praxis. Before that, I was the managing director of the Henry Center for Theological Understanding.
I’m a creative thinker with executive leadership experience across academic and social enterprise contexts. I love finding the resonance between ideas, people, and culture. My background is in community building and strategic planning, with lots of theological education and some writing and public speaking experience.

I’m currently a PhD candidate in systematic theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School:
Advisor - Kevin J. Vanhoozer
Dissertation - “The Church’s Agony: Attending to Christian Division”
